Art, art, where forth art thee

Oh sleep, how I like thee. After a solid nearly 12 hours of serious napping, I feel like I am now on local time without any jet lag. That statement might come back and bit me in a couple of day, but oh well.

After a leisurely morning, of not rushing out of bed, we finally headed out at after 10am. We got our BART cards at the airport yesterday so were set to tackle the trains, yeah really not that difficult. Our first stop was 24th Street and Balmy Alley in the Mission District which is known for its street art and murals. It was lovely wandering down the street looking at the murals and noting which restaurant looked good for lunch for when we wander back toward the train station.

The Albatross was on the lookout for the church where San Francisco was founded, which I only found out about once we were in the Mission District. Unfortunately, as I got the responsibility of planning today, I didn’t know about this church, had no idea where it was or what The Albatross was talking about. But we did find St Peter’s Catholic Church, which he briefly thought was the one. Alas it wasn’t. But doing a Google search once we were home showed we were nowhere near it. Anyway here is a picture of the church we saw.

Lunch was an interesting affair. It looked like a nice local place for some Mexican and the burritos were good. The beer wasn’t. That’s what happens when you say you want the beer in the red can, having absolutely no idea what you were ordering. It was shit as it was flavoured beer. What flavour? Salsa flavoured!

So after a good burrito and two sips of awful beer, we heading in to the SF Museum of Modern Art. I liked it.

A good variety of stuff and a giant porcelain depiction of giant polka dot pumpkins. It as the same artist we saw that had dotty pumpkins on an island we went to in Japan.

The Albatross particularly liked the installation “People were sitting on chairs and playing on their phones as there are charging points”, as well as “Scissor lift recharging in an empty room (capacity 37)”.

Our feet were getting achy so time to head home. But had to go back and get my camera which I decided to leave behind on a seat somewhere in the museum.
