The Albatross
Monday 29 April 2024
Our goal for this holiday was to explore the western coastline of the USA and have a look at Canada. Today we went to the Mexican border to complete the journey. It is only 15 miles south of San Diego so it didn’t take very long to get there. It’s quite a large fence.
We had intended to visit the San Diego Zoo today, however then we looked at the admission prices and decided other activities could be better. It was well over $100AUD a head, sod that for a game of soldiers.
Next stop was Imperial Beach and Pier. It was nice and quiet, with lots of pelicans dive bombing fish and people failing to surf.
(That is Mexico in the background.)
We drove around the outside bay, hoping to find a spot to look over the harbour. Everything was a gated community except for one dog park. Here you could look across to the main naval base, lots of big ships in. There were quite a few that could either be more carriers or amphibious ships (both flat decks). It was quite hazy, so even with binoculars and a great deal of general ignorance we couldn’t tell. Anyway, it was a lovely cool, sunny day.
