The Albatross

So, our first day in Seattle, everything raves about the Pike Street markets. I’m not normally a massive market fan, a proper one such as the Queen Vic in Melbourne, or Adelaide Central on a weekday can be great. They are proper produce markets spanning good acreage. Pike Street is a tiny shit storm of people tik toking themselves. I could go on, however as the memories are causing blood pressure issues, I’ll stop. I really should not have tried that on a weekend, however even without the Saturday crowd, it truly is crap.
Oh, the alley of chewing gum is revolting and needs to be nuked from orbit. Seattle, if that is your best entertainment, you should consider moving.
Anyway, we left before anybody was hurt. We headed north along the bay and stopped at a nice little park just north of city centre, with views over the bay in glorious early spring sunshine, peace descended again. It really is a spectacular little city.
We then went down to a viewing point of the docks I found online this morning, things were quiet at the docks, back to another spot on the west side of the waterway, and again the wharves were still. I don’t think they work weekends.
The transition between the two little parks was interesting, we tried going one way, however, an initially slow moving very, very long train stopped in front of our crossing. After a good while we thought we’d try another route, this took us past their big stadium where lots of people were streaming in to watch some form of boring sport that isn’t cricket.
We ate a late lunch looking over the water at the second spot, then checked out some local Asian supermarkets which were disappointing and where I had a long involuntary conversation with a drunk Mexican man who claims Mexico is on the verge of retaking its lost territories.
We went to the normal shops to buy a modest amount of food and a very large amount of wine.
