The Albatross
Sunday 10 March 2024
We ventured across to Washington State today, with a very pretty trip across the river, spectacular bridge and up to Cape Disappointment State Park.
Initially it was living up to its name as we tried to drive out to the point after paying the day fee only to find we couldn’t get there. We did get very pretty views of waves smashing against rocks under an old lighthouse though.
From there we drove to the visitor’s centre which redeemed everything. It’s positioned on top of an old gun battery with amazing views over the entrance of the Colombia river. We watched a bulk carrier move out as a car transport came in (full of Subarus I’m guessing as Oregon must consume ¾ of global supply). We were there a while fronts rolled in and out and eagles flew around at eye level.
Another stop on the way out overlooking the coast, whilst we scoffed some lunch.
Then back home for G&T’s whilst more fronts came through which we watched from our 4th floor apartment.
