The Albatross

Today was the first stage of transfer days, basically just getting along the road. It turned out to be quite a bit more fascinating. First of all, it was utterly beautiful, from rugged coastlines, to redwood forests, to stunning coastal city to mountain passes. Wind, snow, rain and sunshine, we had it all.
Anyway, I rush ahead. We were out of our house just before 9:00am, a record for us and tootled up the coast. There were signs for Elk crossings and Elk area. Bugger me, there were actually Elk in their designated zones. They even did fancy hoof slapping for us.
We then saw a scenic road you could drive down which ran parallel to the highway. Unfortunately, it said it was closed a mile down, however we did come across another herd of Elk who refused to perform tricks.
The next stop was the mighty Paul Bunyan, mythical forester, who today would be hunted down and beaten to death with organic lettuce for destroying the environment. He has a blue cow for some reason. Anyway, it was fricking cold, so perusing the wares in the gift shop seemed a better idea than admiring his fiberglass glory.
Off down the road through more amazing redwoods.
We eventually popped out at Crescent City. A stunningly pretty spot, down by the harbour you hear the constant squabbles of sea lions whilst looking across at very pretty boats and lighthouse.
We started chatting with a salty old sea dog (well a fat bloke in a jumper, up for a yarn). He advised us the weather was about to get worse, so we decided to head onwards, as we knew we had to head over some hills. The sunshine turned to rain, to sleet to snow. Very pretty, however a tad stressful for Tuna who was driving at the time.
Conditions eased after we went through a tunnel and descended down to Grants Pass.
We picked up some basics here and as it was still an hour till check in (4 o’clock check in is ridiculous) we stopped at a local microbrewery for a cheeky one.
