Painted hills

Another sunny day, meaning more snow was melting and the roads weren’t scary to drive on.

Our plan for the day was to go to the Painted Hills, about 1.5 hours away. Two days ago the road up over the summit wasn’t looking good due to the excessive snow. But having had two days to thaw out, defrost, melt and warm up, the road was clear. However, it was a bit cold outside and the car said it got down to about 26F (-3C) at one stage, which is what it was when we left home. It got to around -10C overnight, good thing we aren’t staying in a tent.

The Painted Hills are barren hills that are layered in colours of red, yellow, tan in bits of black in there. It is also home of plant fossils from a few years ago (around 30 million years). Extremely pretty and there were a number of short (0.5mile) and easy walks.

We didn’t do anything else.
