Tall trees in the rain

The Albatross

Thursday 29 February 2024

Today was a transfer day, however the drive looked both windy and pretty. Both proved to be true. It was very wet and windy as we headed up the coast, being caught for well over half an hour in roadworks along the coast. The poor bloke holding the stop/slow sign looked utterly miserable, wet and cold.

Eventually we left the coast and wound inland up to the hills. The first stop was a tree you could drive the car through. We may have been able to inch it through, and we have full cover, however, I didn’t want to have to call the rental agency and explain their car was lodged hard in a redwood.

Redwood was the theme for the day. You could just drive straight down the freeway, however the old route is still open, so you could travel through groves of these stunning trees, and stop as you wish. I never understood the hype over these trees, I do now. The sun even came out for a while and it was just beautiful.

Into our lodgings in McKinleyville, after a stop for provisions. Does your local supermarket have the world’s tallest totem pole? Our Safeway does. Almost as exciting as a giant prawn in the Bunnings carpark in Ballina (not really, the prawn is very impressive!).
