The Albatross
Tuesday 12 March 2024
Ah, another sunny day in the North West Pacific. The locals keep telling us that this rainy barrage is unusual for this time of year, I suspect they lie.
Today we just transferred through to Vancouver (no not that one), a sister city of Portland, just on the other side of the Columbia River. It seemed more chilled and we need to spend a few days here so we can renew our rental car (that’s another saga). So, we followed the river and came in from the North (partially as I’m terrified of the Portland interchanges). All was good except for it slashed down most of the trip and the last leg into town had lots of trucks blinding the car with road grime and other traffic driving really fast. Road signs in the USA seem to be advisory, even in rubbish conditions.
Anyway, we made it. It was only two and a half hours and we rolled into Vancouver Waterfront just in time for lunch. A lovely restaurant overlooking the river with lots of sea lions splashing around. The sun finally came out, and it was rather lovely. After a lazy feed we went off for provisions and luckily the house was ready just after pm3. Time to watch the suburb go past our 60’s retreat and do some half-arsed planning.
