Today was another lazy day. The Albatross had a plan, visit a couple of nice local parks, go for walk and just chill. First stop was about 30 mins south at Van Damme State Park. Down a rather narrow and bumpy road which very much needed to be resealed, we came to the Pygmy Forest Discovery Trail. I was looking for pygmy elephants but couldn’t find any. Apparently, the pygmy part refers to the type of vegetation, not very tall compared to all the other trees in this region. It was a very pretty walk along a boardwalk but not quite as long as expected. We were done in about half an hour and that included stopping and reading about each plant.

Just up the road was the quaint little village of Mendocino. It had lovely views out over the ocean and the rugged coastline. Unlike yesterday, today wasn’t windy but the sun was out.

Time to stop for some lunch and Russian Gulch State Park seemed like a good spot. However, it seems all State Parks are $8 to get in, regardless of what you are doing or how long you want to stay. We decided to puddle a bit further up the coast towards town on the lookout for a good lunch spot. Jug Handle State Natural Reserve was closed and then we missed the turn for the bit that might have been open. We decided to just cut our loses and go home for a late lunch.

We also needed to do a little bit of research and decide what we actually want to do over the next couple of weeks and book somewhere to stay tomorrow night.
