It only snows when I Bend

The Albatross

Monday 04 March 2024

We awoke this morning to big fluffy flakes of snow falling, which whilst very pretty, doesn’t bode well for going out and seeing stuff. It took a while to clean the snow off the car and warm it up. For most folks this is a drudgery, however, we still find it an exciting novelty.

Fortunately, when we finally headed out, the snow seems to have stopped halfway through town. 2km north of us they hadn’t had anything, nice dry roads, easy driving. We first headed to Smith Rock State Park. It’s really popular with rock climbers and hiking, and is pretty spectacular in the nice clear weather. There are eagles nesting at the moment, and you occasionally see them flying out of the small caves up on the peak.

The problem was that it isn’t that big, so we were done in a great deal less time than expected, not feeling the desire to go hiking in close to freezing conditions.

So, we toddled down the road to Lake Ochoco, where we went for a stroll, patted a nice dog and ate lunch from the warmth of a nice warm car. We also received conformation here that we can extend our stay a couple of days, which is good as this is a nice little town.

Eventually back for standard shopping, fuel and underpants washing. And when we were 2km from home, it started snowing again and hasn’t stopped. I do not understand, however as long as it’s only here, I’m super happy.
