The Albatross

I’m writing this the day after, when I’m super tired and exhausted. I didn’t write it last night as I was in the same condition, so this might be brief flash back of memories. Leaving our icy fortress of solitude, we bundled down the highway, praying for a campervan free existence, which was generally granted.
We expected the scenery to get dull. I’m not sure the USA does dull scenery, just various scales of brilliant. We blew through a few cool spots, however, we did stop at a few view points, including an amazing one looking over where they dammed the Colorado river to create a lake, with boats scooting around way below.
Another quick view near Antelope Canyon, which we latter found out is an amazing spot to explore. Bugger.
We zoomed past our accommodation to look at Wupatki National Monument, which are a collection of settlements of the Pueblo folk in around the 1100’s. The local tribes all claim oral history of the times although they have seen many iterations of tribal powers, all I know is they chose one of the shittest places on earth to try farming. The similarities I’ve seen in Mayan, Aztec and Inca settlements/buildings ties in, these chaps just stopped too early. There was very little information about who these people were, what they believed, or how they came to be here, which to me is the interesting thing, not necessarily the buildings.
Heading back up the road we stopped past a failed motel, which they’ve turned into an art project, really cool.
Off to digs for the night at Cameron, a really nice motel and cultural stop run by the local Navajo folk. I was gagging for an ale, however the place was dry. We did have gin and cold tonic in the Eskies, so the world was bearable. They do have a really nice restaurant, so after a lovely feed I basically went to bed and didn’t write my blog. Tuna is about to do the same on hers tonight after an even longer day.
