Since yesterday wasn’t the most relaxing, we thought we would have a chilled day today and do something nice for our (28th) wedding anniversary today, although it was actually yesterday. We both had a good night’s sleep and I got my morning coffee in bed, yet again. The Albatross has only missed two days, and that was because of the stairs at that place were ridiculous and you needed both hands get up and down the stairs.
We are in the smallish ski town of Dillon that sits on the Dillon Reservoir, which is currently still frozen. We went for a drive around the reservoir as I wanted to get up close to a frozen lake. We found a couple of good parking spots where we could see across the lake but also get close to it.
Driving a bit further on there was a lookout, so we stopped. It had great views over the lake and mountains, but also has some wildlife out. We saw a squirrel, doing squirrelling things and at the lookout we saw lots of chipmunks, doing chipmunk things.
The walk back to the car was up a very gentle incline but we were a bit breathless by the time we got back to the car. The lookout was at 9,450 ft (2,880m) and Dillon is at 9,019 ft (2,749m). So, it was a little bit of thin air altitude affecting us, also the fact we aren’t very fit at the moment.
Back home for lunch of elk bratwurst and some planning and booking for the next couple of days. We are also planning for the last 3.5 weeks we have here in the US and deciding where to go when we leave. We are leaving about 5 weeks earlier than expected.
Did I mention how nice our view is?
