With our time here in the USA now shorter than originally planned we are now working out what we want to see. Utah has always been part of the plan and we have a couple of big-ticket parks on the list. As they are close-ish to each other we’ve found a central spot to do them as day trips. So today was a commuting day from Grand Junction right on the Colorado/Utah border through to the small town of Duck Creek Village, Utah. Once we crossed over into Utah, our maps said there were some scenic view points along the way, so we decided to stop and have a quick peek, and we are so glad we did. It was amazing what we saw withing the first couple of hours of our drive. Over the course of our 340mile / 5+hr drive, the scenery and colours for our drive changed quite a lot. We went from the flat topped mountains and canyons of Colorado National Monument Park (that we say yesterday), barren foothills of mountains, completely barren sandy coloured hills, massive uptilted slabs of rocks, deep red, green or sandy coloured canyons, flat plains to driving between massive snowcapped mountains. It is hard to describe just how blown away we were with the stunning beauty of what we saw of Utah at the four roadside scenic stops. The National Parks we have lined up for the rest of our time in Utah have a lot to live up to now.

Here are a ridiculous number of pictures.

Eventually we got to Duck Creek Village and our cool accommodation. I didn’t realise when we were booking it, it was up in the mountains and at 8,600ft. That would explain why there is still large piles of snow everywhere. At least the road, although dirt, was clear and well graded, if not a little muddy.
