The Albatross
Saturday 13 April 2024
We initially planned to be in Denver as we thought we might need to sort out visas, but as we gave up trying to fight the system, we didn’t need to, so booked a place up in the Rockies instead.
Our accommodation had been rather crappy, and my breakfast of Beanee Weenees (a request from my sister) hadn’t delivered an exceptional start to the day.
The drive at the beginning was on minor highways.
Then into Denver was easy as it was largely just interstate, however the number of cars on the road was quite astonishing.
I’d found a place that sold some more interesting meats (venison, etc), with only a minor detour from our path on Denver outskirts. We intended to have lunch up in Dillon and chill for the afternoon. It’s our wedding anniversary today and we have a lovely home with mountain views. Unfortunately, there had been a crash on the I-70, and we crawled for an hour and covered about 3-4 miles. The other side was worse which wasn’t moving at all. Once we got moving again, everyone drove like idiots, up and down steep inclines, randomly accelerating and braking. People seemed to have forgotten how to drive properly on a dual lane interstate.
So, arrival was rather late.
We both then hoovered a large pub lunch which made both of us feel a bit average (I already was, I blame the Beanie Weenies) and then checked in. Not a great day, however we are in a beautiful spot, and we’ll celebrate our anniversary tomorrow.
We had a very pretty sunset on the mountains and looking across the frozen lake.
