Today was a driving day and we headed south to the border and back into the USA. It was a reasonably clear day so we had a day full of magnificent scenery of the Rocky Mountains, they are really quite big hills. This is just an amazing beautiful and stunning part of the world and I am enjoying it so much.
We didn’t do anything but drive for 5 hours from Kimberley, BC Canada to Missoula, MT USA. The international border cross was a breeze and done in 5 mins. Although the nice Customs and Border Patrol man told us our visa will expire in mid-May, which is against all advice we have received, including that from customs at SF airport. Oh well, we will sort it out in the next few days or weeks. Once into Montana USA the countryside changes dramatically. On the Canadian side it was forest everywhere with the mountains in the background. It looked so lush and green, with pockets of snow that still hadn’t melted. Once over the border and back in the USA, it was dry and treeless with the mountains in the background. It was such a significant and stark change. It did eventually green up a bit, but it was still beautiful.
We kept heading south and around Flathead Lake. I tried to find accommodation here but it was exorbitantly expensive. I can see why, views over a glacial green lake to the Rocky Mountains.
We staying in Missoula only for one night, but our little apartment is very nice with really creaky wooden floorboards.
