Surprisingly warm and uncomfortably dusty

Our apartment has some very nice views across the river to Burnaby and downtown Vancouver, and they sparkle at night.

Heading east today to see some more of Canadia. Remarkably and surprisingly in half an hour we were in the outer, outer suburbs of Vancouver. A quick stop for some petrol and we were on the way again. We love a good freeway without traffic lights. We had a slight detour when we decided to stick on the National 1 road, which went quiet and worked out that it added an extra 1.5hours to the trip on some windy roads. We turned around and stuck on the 5 east.

Although it was extremely windy, had to hold on to the car so not to be blown into the next lane and quite a few trucks, it was a nice and scenic drive. Stunning mountains covered in snow, drier pine forests to very dry plains on a dual lane freeway at 120km/hr, getting up to 135 when you went downhill.

We stopped in Merritt for lunch at a small park, the loos were padlocked closed and there was a local homeless man asleep in his tent under a tree. Back on the road to more wind, trucks and wind. We did drive past quite a few lakes that were still frozen over, but the road was clear of snow and ice.

Coming into Kamloops the wind was still howling and it was picking up the dry dirt and spreading it everywhere. We both decided that it was a good choice to only stay here for one nice on our way to Golden.

Into to town and got the mega-beast Honda Pilot an oil change. Our last check up with the hire company said it needed an oil change at 38,300 miles and we were on it. The very nice man at the hire company in Vancouver, BC said to just get it done and then the amount would be taken off next month’s rental.

Checked in a nice glass or two of wine and then it was dinner time. A sneaky ale at the Frick and Frack Tap House and then off to a very nice (but extremely large) dinner at a local Chinese. We doggy bagged the leftovers and gave it to the homeless blokes on the way back to the hotel.

Belly full, time for a nap.
