The Albatross

The place we are staying is a lovely big barn style home, however it has one small problem, they decided to build a rather bespoke spiral staircase up to the master bedroom. It is steep, homemade and very narrow, the handrail where it exists is rather wobbly. We’ve left all our clothes downstairs as there is no way we can get the bags up and down. As a result, Tuna has had to forgo coffee in bed for our current stay.
Another picnic attempt today, another failure. We aren’t good at lunch. We attempted the drive up the mountain top a hang glider launch spot which promised stunning views. The cloud was still drifting around, however, it was low down in the valley, so there was chance we would be above it. Up the track we went, it was dirt road and very well made and wide. Tuna who was driving wasn’t happy as there was light surface mud and then snow appeared. She eventually let me drive, and the car was doing it easy, snow mode doing an excellent job in the very shallow covering.
Tuna wasn’t doing it easy, so instead of stressing her anymore more I turned around.
With the days activity a bit scuppered, we went back to town and looked at a nice bridge by the river, bought two bananas and an onion, stopped for some mediocre microbrewery beer and headed home for a late lunch.
We have come up with a rough masterplan for the rest of our travels and found somewhere to live for the next two days, so not all was lost.
